I've been a slack blogger

We are now at lock up and I still haven't been down to the block to take photos of the inside. Since my last post we have had all of the plastering finished, cornices and skirting boards done, kitchen, bathrooms and laundry cabinets installed and caesar stone benches are in. All internal doors are in and most of the handles are on the cabinets. It is becoming very exciting and we are now wanting to move in more than ever.
Since things are moving along quite nicely I have started shopping (well all my my head) for all the new furniture and decor that will make this house a home. So far hubby has agreed to almost everything but the lounge suit situation isn't getting any easier We are at complete opposite ends of the style grid when it comes to what we each want... I will have to work a little harder on him as I have the picture all mapped out in my head of what our lounge room is going to look like :)
Hopefully I will get a chance to get some internal pics this week.
Till then...

Nearly at lock up

Wow!! A lot has happened since my first post. We are almost at Lock Up. Things have been moving so quickly and smoothly that so far this has been a completely stress free build.
Our Administrator has been calling once a week to keep us up to date with what is expected next but as we are renting five doors down most of the time we are updating her.
She called hubby last Thursday to say that the plaster should be arriving sometime this week with the plasters due to be on site next week.
Imagine my surprise to find not only have the plaster been delivered on Saturday but there were three plasterers working away. At 4pm I was busting for them to finish up for the day so I could check out what they had done. To my complete surprise they pulled out portable lighting and worked away until after 8pm. They had completely plastered the whole house in one day!

So here are some pics of progress so far;

Our block before the fun began

Leveled out

Slab, frame & windows (missed a few pics on my camera but hubby got them)

I'll have to download the next lot of pics to show you and I'll sneak up this afternoon to take the first pics of inside :)

Almost ready to begin!

So over the last week I have gotten so much inspiration from a heap of blogs where others, just like us have built or are building their dream home, that I decided that I would start one of my own :)

We got the final go ahead from the bank on Friday and have been advised by Henley that they should be on site within the next seven days. The excitement was short lived though when they then told us that the bricks we had chosen were no longer available and if we didn't want a six week delay then we would need to choose another brick by Tuesday....argh!

This morning hubby and I (with two very bored little girls) headed off to Boral. We thought things were going great when we both decided that our first choice was Labassa, so with a list of addresses we headed off on our brick adventure. The first three properties were a miss as the bricks had only just been delivered and were still sitting on pallets. When we finally got to the fourth place they had only just begun bricking up the garage, but we liked what we could see. The fifth and final property was almost complete which was great although it was a double story so there were a lot of bricks and we were no longer sure if Labassa was our choice.

Five hours in the car and we were done...I was well and truly over bricks and beginning to think that I could care less what the bricks looked like. The Labassa wasn't all bad and I was sure I could live with them...so we decided to call it a day and head home.

As we sold our house last year we are renting in the same street that our block is in. Driving home through the estate I suddenly hit the breaks and declared to my startled hubby that the house right in front of us had the exact bricks I wanted. I jumped out of the car and marched up to the front door. I very politely apologised for interrupting their weekend and asked if they would be able to tell me the name of the brick they had used to build there new home. Forty-five minutes later, hubby the kids and I got back into the car with a sample brick and Emma & Steve (the lovely couple we had just met) had taken our mobile numbers so they could check the name of the brick with their builders first thing Monday morning and get back to us.

My brick stress has finally gone and I am now excited again about Henley being on site within a week :) Fingers crossed we have a stress free build... a girl can dream can't she?

I will post a pick of the brick once I found out what it is called:)
